Design: Theory vs. Practice

There’s a difference between learning about design and actually doing it.

Where does learning end and putting what you learned into practice begin? Honestly, it’s not a linear motion. It’s a cycle of learning and doing. Gain new information but don’t stay in the “getting ready to” phase. You’ve got to get to the part where you actually try it out in real-time. This is particularly the case with graphic design:

💡 Learning:

Analogous colors are a group of 3 or more colors next to each other on the color wheel.

⚙️ Doing:

Applying analogous colors to a design in Illustrator

💡 Learning:

Reading an article about generative AI being added to design software…

⚙️ Doing:

Generative AI in Canva — Watch Video

Using the Magic Edit tool in Canva

💡 Learning:

There are different type styles such as Old Style, Transitional, Modern, Serif, Slab Serif, Sans Serif, Decorative, etc.
